Paul Smith is Britain’s leading independent design company and a true fashion institution. Beginning in 1970 with a single three-by-three metre shop in Paul’s hometown of Nottingham, it has grown into a global enterprise, with more than 130 shops across 60 countries. All throughout this, the guiding principle has been Paul’s design philosophy of ‘classic with a twist,’ with every piece reflecting his irrepressible spirit.

BOTANIST

Botanist takes inspiration from a vetiver-based cologne that Paul received as a gift from his wife Pauline in the early 1970s, upon opening his very first shop. Paul took to spraying the perfume in the shop – originally to mask the odour of his beloved Afghan hound, Homer! – and the distinctive earthy character of vetiver became inseparable from memories of those earliest days of the brand. When it came time to create a fragrance which evoked this period in Paul’s life,vetiver had to be at its centre.
