Since 1221 in Florence, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella has been creating, producing and distributing high-end perfumes and cosmetics, as well as liqueurs and products for health and well-being, reflecting its origins as the monastic pharmacy of the Dominican friars. This makes it in all likelihood the oldest continuously operating pharmacy in the world, still in business in the same place as at its origins. The Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is deeply interwoven with the cultural, artistic, scientific, industrial and commercial history of the city of Florence. The milestone moments of both city and company coincide: from the foundation and development of the earliest centuries in the monastery to the Medici and Lorraine grand duchies, from Napoleonic domination to the advent of the Kingdom of Italy leading to the company’s transition to a private institution in 1866, then Florence as capital of Italy, the 20th century, and the most recent decades. Each stage left a profound imprint on the Officine’s identity and business, thanks to the powerful and foundational link between tradition and innovation.

ANGELI DI FIRENZE

Officina’s 2006 fragrance is an homage to the most recent history of Florence, of which we have witnessed, and of which we have been a part, for the last 800 years. The juicy peach meets the marine notes, sweetened with black currant and illuminated by jasmine. They are balanced by musk and sandalwood, and accompanied by an elegant vanilla note. Our Cologne has now lend its unique character to the precious Firenze 1221 editions of Body Cream, Bath Gel and Liquid Soap.

Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’s Melograno fragrance is a bouquet of sweet floral oriental notes. The fragrance summons warm, welcoming sensations, an appropriate interpretation of the tree’s symbolic meaning. The pomegranate tree spread from Persia throughout the Mediterranean. It embellished many ancient Egyptian tombs. The pomegranate fruit symbolizes many things. It appears in the Song of Songs, in The Odyssey and in ancient folklore, emblematic of fertility and abundance.
